2005-02-09 chinese new year ash wednesday
grey day ash wednesday.
busy with deadline -
pictures and words.
chinese new year - the year of the rooster.
stores are busy with crownds - selling paper flowers and decorations.
down division and market streets - firecrackers and chinese rappers.
thick crowd -
for a minute loud noise and smoke.
if people weren't smiling for an instant it would look like a terrorist
attack.
ashes are falling from the sky - pink exploded firecrackers cover the
streets and look like pink flower petals from a distance.
ride west across the bowery. mott street is packed as well.
a lot more tourists in the crowd.
the gift shops and the store signs in the latin alphabet you dont see
when you walk down east broadway.
stop by st. patrick old cathedral mott and prince. the light is too
crappy to take close up of ash wednesday people.
inside the church i see mostly firemen of irish ancestry.
back down to east chinatown
inside the buddhist temple next door to new york's oldest synagogue.
eldridge street.
ash wednesday - the year of the rooster.
